Getting Back On The Humble Highway
Mar 26, 2020Whenever we feel entitled to anything and we veer off the Humble Highway, we are setting ourselves up for emotional deflation.
The truth is, the world doesn’t owe us a damn thing. It took me years to accept that it was up to me to make myself happy in spite of how many people tried to make me miserable, and yes, there were people in my life who made it their mission to piss on my leg while they insisted it was raining.
Silly Munchkins!
If we are adults, the time has passed when others were supposed to cater to our needs, powder our bottoms, warm our bottles, and pack our lunch. If we are adults, and we are holding onto the idea that another adult should figure out what we need, take care of our finances, and tolerate our temper tantrums, it might be time to get back on the Humble Highway.
Life is rough and if we are not mindful of what attitudes we carry, time and time again we will feel chewed up and spat out!
The hardest and most challenging moment in our lives is when we face the fact that it is up to US to change our lives.
In this moment, we throw our hands up and say, “ENOUGH—I freaking get it—I HAVE TO LEARN TO TAKE CARE OF MYSELF—NO MATTER HOW AFRAID I AM OF FAILING—NO MATTER HOW ANGRY I AM AT MY PARENTS OR MY EX FOR ABUSING ME—NO MATTER HOW TERRIFIED I AM OF THE UNKNOWN—MY SUCCESS or MY UNHAPPINESS IS UP TO ME—I CAN WALLOW IN SELF PITY and CURSE THE WORLD or I CAN CHOOSE TO FOCUS ON WHAT IS GOOD and RIGHT ABOUT ME and FIND A WAY TO MAKE MY LIFE WORK-I AM PISSED—but I KNOW THAT WON’T CHANGE A THING and it MIGHT MAKE THINGS WORSE!”
The moment I realized there was no rescue boat coming to save my behind, was the moment I realized how POWERFUL I really was.
When everything I clung to dissolved beneath my feet, it was the worst of times yet the best of times.
In those moments, I was being FREED from all false ideas and beliefs that caused me to believe I was not enough and I could never make it on my own.
Sometimes when we believe we are falling apart, we are actually falling together. The truth is, all you ever needed has been within you all along, just like Dorothy and her Ruby Slippers.
Turns out—all you had to do was BELIEVE in yourself and in the POWER within you. Today, how can you feel more empowered by believing all that you need is within you? How would your life turn around if you really, really stopped looking for answers on the outside and you started trusting the divine guidance that is on the inside?
